Dozens killed in Bangladesh tower blaze as survivors leap from windows

A massive fire that raced through a building overnight in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka has killed at least 45 people and injured dozens, the country’s health minister said on Friday. Fire authorities said a gas leak or a stove could have caused the blaze, which started late on Thursday (February 29) and spread quickly after breaking out in a biryani restaurant, and was only reined in following two hours of effort by 13 units of firefighters. Fires are common in densely populated Dhaka, which has experienced a boom in new buildings, often constructed without adequate safety measures. Fires and explosions have occurred due to faulty gas cylinders, air conditioners and poor electrical wiring. #fire #bengladesh #dhaka Subscribe to The Telegraph with our special offer: just £1 for 3 months.
