New species of deep-sea coral - Gersemia juliepackardae

A new species of nephtheid soft coral inhabiting the northeast Pacific Ocean is described from samples collected using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and a benthic trawl. The new species, Gersemia juliepackardae, is named in honor of Julie Packard, Executive Director of the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
