Challengers writer reveals how Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka inspired plot

The writer of Challengers has revealed how the plot of the film was inspired by Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka. He says the “first kernel“ of the story was inspired by Serena Williams being penalised for receiving coaching on the sidelines in 2018. Challengers tells the story of a tennis player and coach who, whilst taking part in the sport, must manage the affections of two love interests.
