Bilbo’s Patchwork Housecoat from The Hobbit: One Robe To Rule Them All

The quest for the ultimate in fantasy-bounding lounge wear and a desire to use only recycled and repurposed textiles resulted in a three month long creation process that gave me a fabulous new patchwork robe and a new sense of appreciation for the community of my childhood home. While this didn’t start out as a nostalgic project, that’s certainly what it ended up being, from making a garment based on a story that was read to me as a child from the books gifted to me by my uncle, to the heirloom sewing machine that I learned to sew on, in the city and house that I grew up in, this was both a literal and metaphorical coming home… and I ended up with a super comfortable robe with a Twirl Factor that is off the charts! Come with me as I recreate Bilbo’s Robe from “The Hobbit” (I don’t dare say “Lord of the Rings”, lest the Tom Bombadil gang comes for me). If this project inspired you to create your own version, or even to tackle a similar project - maybe a different patchwork or quilted garment
