Soy Cuba: A Shot for the Revolution

Ko-fi, if you’re so inclined: Twitter: In a new series, I aim to take a look at individual shots from movies often considered the greatest, and unpack what makes them so special. In this inaugural episode I aim to tackle the famous funeral scene from Soy Cuba, a bizarre pseudo-propaganda film from the 1960’s. Soy Cuba is a truly wonderful film with a truly strange history. Conceived as a propaganda film and buried for near 30 years, it’s still considered a seminal piece of filmmaking even today, having inspired Directors like Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese. If you like what I do, then hey, please like, share and subscribe! Let me know what other movies you’d like me to talk about in the comments section, as well as get into long debates about communism and Cuban history.
