DOMBROWSKI AND DE MARCHI, LATE ACHIEVERS
American wins from breakaway in Sestola, Italian leads the Giro at 34
For the second straight day, the stage winner survived from the breakaway and Joe Dombrowski rode to glory on the eve of his 30th birthday while Alessandro De Marchi, second in Sestola, moved into the Maglia Rosa for the first time at the age of 34. It was a hard fought stage among the GC favourites as well. Egan Bernal, Aleksandr Vlasov, Mikel Landa and Hugh Carthy gained 11’’ over Remco Evenepoel, Romain Bardet, Simon Yates and Dan Martin, 34’’ over Vincenzo Nibali, Pavel Sivakov and Jai Hindley while Joao Almeida lost more than four minutes in the rainy and cold racing conditions of Stage 4.
