ELEGIAC | MID SEASON COLLECTION 2012 This season’s collection from Sassoon Academy is a reflective and melancholic mirror of our times. The military chic of the Napoleonic Empire is mixed with the nostalgic romanticism of Empire line gowns producing looks of iridescent beauty with an ethereal aesthetic. Disciplined military greatcoats adorned with the Legion d’Honneur slowly deconstruct to reveal fragile delicate dresses with a feeling of subtle romanticism that rejects the fickleness of fashion. Hair design morphs from the shortest of softly texturised geometrics into diaphanously trailing veils. Colours range from the deepest darkest mahogany, graduating through burnt reds and bright copper into sheer shapes that are gilded in soft rose and antique gold. Elegiac looks to the faded grandeur of an irrecoverable past; trampled battlefields and fallen empires, buried worlds of ghostly beauty.
