Item title reads: “Wealth for for others. Agile youth and stiff jointed old age in dramatic race to peg out their claims in newly discovered diamond ’field.’“ South Africa M/S of a long line of mounted soldiers wearing pith helmets, riding through a camp with men and a car in the foreground. A queue of men stand in a line, some with hats and short sleeves, all European. There is a wide view of a large crowd with cars and horse drawn vehicles, look like trekkers, with cars, carts, horses, and people moving along a dusty track. The cattle move ahead. M/S of crowd, many in short sleeve shirts. L/S of crowd starting to form a line up, and then running like mad, to stake their claims. Various shots of young and old, a young girl and an old bearded man, with beaming faces as they have reached their goal. People stand or sit with claim markers. M/S of a field with lots of mounds where prospectors have begun to dig for diamonds. Note: no homeland African faces - but no-one looked rich. FILM
