The Blue Qur’an - brief overview from Hidden Stories

Hidden Stories co-curator Filiz Çakir Phillip and Islamic arts scholar Jonathan Bloom (Boston University) discuss one of the greatest treasures of the Islamic world - the famed Blue Qur’an - so-called because of the distinctive blue parchment that makes up its luxurious pages, filled with exquisitely gilded calligraphic writing. Dating to the 9th or 10th century, it is one of the earliest surviving Quranic manuscripts of this quality. Join the conversation and learn about the mysteries that still surround its production and origin, as these scholars discuss where, when, and how this important early Islamic book was made.
