Reports that the children were locked in a barn without necessities prompted a police investigation. An indictment accuses the couple of racially motivated exploitation. The court raised the bond amount to $500,000 (cash only) to keep the pair detained and they are due back in court on 9 September. The children are safe, though their location remains confidential.  In this clip from the ’Luke and Pete Talking Sheet Podcast’ (@lukeandpete), UK-based comedians Luke King Craig (@lukekingcraig) and Peter Rethinasamy (@standuppete) have a comical exchange where, after Craig reads the story of the couple’s arrest, he tells Rethinasamy that he has never heard of Black people adopting white children. On a more serious note, white people adopting Black children can echo colonialist patterns, reinforcing historical power imbalances that can neglect children’s cultural needs, considered a right per the United Nations.
