UK is in trouble! Buildings and cars submerged, flash flooding in Newry, NI Heavy rain overnight in the Newry area and surrounds has resulted in spot flooding and delays on the road with diversions in place in some areas. Flooding is becoming a major issue in Newry already this evening with several premises around Canal Quay and Basin Quay already flooding. Newry Canal has breached it’s banks following a day of rising flood water from the Clanrye River making its way into the canal from along the Newry Canal Towpath. Video footage showed water flowing through the streets. One local resident said it is the highest he has seen the water in over a decade. The flooding started around 7pm and dozens of staff from the Department for Infrastructure placed sandbags on the river wall in front of Newry Town Hall.
