Volcano Erupts in Hawaii NOW! Lava Flows, Earthquakes, Gas Emissions!
On June 3rd, at around 12:30 PM Pacific Standard Time, a new eruption of the Kilauea volcano began in Hawaii. The fissure eruption occurred in a remote area approximately 2.5 miles southwest of the Kilauea caldera in a closed section of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Lava erupted from a fissure system approximately 0.6 miles long. Lava flows extended only a few hundred meters from the fissures. The total area covered by the new lava is estimated to be several thousand square meters.
Nighttime webcam images showed continuous glow from the fissures. Active degassing of SO2 gas is still occurring at a measured rate of around 12,000 tons per day. Numerous large ground cracks have formed in the eruption area.
