La serie è prodotta da Lux Vide in collaborazione con Rai Fiction e Big Light Productions in associazione con France Télévisions e RTVE, co-prodotta e distribuita da Sony Pictures Entertainment - è creata da Frank Spotnitz (X-Files, The Man in the High Castle, I Medici) e Steve Thompson (Sherlock, Doctor Who) e diretta da Dan Percival (The Man in the High Castle, I misteri di Pemberley) e Alexis Sweet (Don Matteo, Back to the Island). Nel cast, insieme ad Aidan Turner (Poldark, Lo Hobbit), che interpreta Leonardo da Vinci, Giancarlo Giannini (Romanzo Famigliare, Catch 22) è Andrea del Verrocchio, il maestro di Leonardo; Matilda De Angelis (The Undoing, I ragazzi dello Zecchino d’Oro, Tutto può succedere) è Caterina da Cremona, la misteriosa musa e amica più cara; Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor, Bates Motel) è Stefano Giraldi, giovane investigatore del Podestà incaricato di risolvere il mistero al centro della storia; Carlos Cuevas (Merlì)
