Tabla accompaniment by Pt. Omkar Gulvady. Pt. Nityanand Haldipur is one of the most important flutists in Hindustani classical music. He is among the foremost disciples of Smt. Annapurna Devi, the legendary surbahar maestro and doyenne of the Maihar Gharana. Pt. Haldipur’s music is characterised by tonal grace, melodic depth and gravitas. While his vilambit is serene and deeply contemplative, his distinctly-styled jod has a lilting sonority to it. In contrast, his drut renderings sparkle with a profusion of filigree work and fluidity of his taans, the dazzling rhythmic interplay in his gats and precision in his use of swaras bear testament to years of arduous riaz, and the rigorous taleem that he has received.
