Liability Luke - Chameleon (Official Video)

Official video for Chameleon by Liability Luke “Velveteen“, out everywhere! 𝗟𝗬𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗦: The seraph and the serpent both are dead So I burned a hole in the back of my head What’s the point of penance when the cycle just goes on I warped myself to wash your feet, but if I’m not me, then who am I at all A collage of blurry photographs on this blank-slate blanket-statement of a guise The mod podge glazes over my eyes; your mortality depends on my guide (It’s ride or die!) My self-given designation ain’t enough my “true“ self, but lizards can’t live on air Why be real if I could be your ideal? Revel in your imaginary stare Does choosing what I am make me any less real than you I ain’t got a clue Chameleon My colors shift beneath the sun Chameleon... the mask is what defines me And I’m no longer art when no one’s left admiring Medusa gazed on all but me, how can it be? I’ve got a superstition Cross my fingers when I wonder if I live inside your mind or die inside thy eyes Drop a mirror and grow fonder of the pieces of myself I cannot find And that’s fine! I’ve never been of stable mind And I can’t tell what’s genuine and what’s performative anymore Chameleon I redo until undone The floodlights get shut off but I still blend in with the wall Red, gold, and green aren’t what they seem, so who am I at all If I were cloaked in black could you still recognize my voice If my identity was nothing would I still be your second choice I’ll be your disco ball - reflect back your own image in kaleidoscopic mirrors I’ll be a sinner or a saint but bad luck is my fate if broken mirrors make these murky waters clearer I burned this hole in the back of my head, but your thoughts will be the bullet that shoots me dead My finger’s on the trigger, but I’ll let you pull Won’t you do it? Won’t you prove it? Won’t you burn that hole straight through my skull No, no, no, no Won’t you let this be the death of me so it’s your fault and not mine I have to get away this time, no, you’ll never take me alive I’m lost inside your eyes Reflect from shattered disco balls (Oh and all for nothing at all) Mirror on the wall I’m begging “Who am I at all?“ I am the mask It doesn’t matter who I was ’cause I am the mask. If no one saw the tree fall Did it really happen? Am I more than your perception I am the mask Your eyes are my ceiling of glass I’m lost beneath the black, but vivid hues conceal my flaws I’m my own villain if there’s a villain after all Karma, Karma I take and take and pay the price Karma, Karma I must recast the dice Authenticity’s a cell to me I die inside thy reptile eyes Chameleon (Karma, Karma, take and take and pay the price) I redo until undone (Karma, Karma, I must recast the dice!) The floodlights get shut off but I still blend in with the wall (Authenticity’s a cell to me, I die inside thy reptile eyes!) Red, gold, and green aren’t what they seem So who am I at all And, god, you’re only seventeen- obsessed- there’s nothing in between Your brain engulfed red, gold, and green, but you are only velveteen That tattered soul you pray, one day, itself to you reveal Just drop thy shield, take off the mask You become 𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗢 𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗦: Creative Directed: Liability Luke / Jonathan Dunston Shot and Edited: Noah Boggan Chereography: Jonathan Dunston Art: Liability Luke Costume and Makeup: Liability Luke Special Thanks: University of Alabama in Huntsville Matthew Westmeir Erin Biritz Ben ????
