Organic Chemistry | Lecture 1.2 | Alkanes | ChemU

This is the second episode of our first lecture on Organic Chemistry. In this lecture we will learn simplest organic compunds - alkanes, their representations, classification and examples. Then, we will explain and discuss what homologous series of straight-chain alkanes is, discover the alkyl groups, and name the first ten straight-chain alkanes. In the last part of the lecture we will talk about the phenomenon of the structural isomerism and branched alkanes, learn about the isomers of the alkyl groups, their names and abbreviations. Enjoy watching! Plan of the Lecture: 00:00 - Introduction 00:42 - Definition, Types, and Structures of Alkanes 4:15 - Homologous Series of n-Alkanes 5:00 - Straight-Chain Alkane Names 5:32 - The Concept of an Alkyl Group 8:15 - Structural Isomerism & Branched Alkanes 15:50 - Conclusion If you have any questions related to this lecture, you can ask them on our forum in the specific thread dedicated to this lecture:
