Prayer Practice: Lutheran Rosary Prayer beads made their entrance into the Christian faith in 1350 AD by the Roman Catholic Church. Accepted belief states that Saint Dominic initiated prayer beads based on a visitation of “The Virgin Mary.” So there has always been a Mary component to the Rosary… and while that is not necessarily the focus of what we are calling the Lutheran Rosary, the prayer concludes with either saying part of the magnificat or Luther’s words about Mary which are great for us to hear. 1 Begin by touching the crucifix and pray The Sign of the Cross. “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” 2 On the first large rosary bead, pray the Our Father. “Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
