Nagwa Fouad (1977)

The dancer in this tableau is of course Egyptian legend Nagwa Fouad and the singer is Saudi vocalist Mohamed Abdo who’s so youthful and without his trademark moustache that I didn’t recognise him at first :-) This scene’s from the 1977 Egyptian film ’The Magic Lamp’ (also known as ’Mirrors’). I guess we’ll have to call this piece ’fusion’ as it has khaleeji music, a singer wearing a dishdash, dancers doing a ’sort of’ debke and its in a bedouin setting (with a live camel) but the costumes are a mix of Saidi and hagallah.
