On December 15, 1909, the Spanish classical guitarist and composer Francesc d’Assís Tàrrega i Eixea, or simply Francisco Tárrega, one of the founders of modern performance on the instrument, died in Barcelona at the age of 57.
In 1993, a fragment from his work «Gran Vals», composed in 1902, became the first musical ringtone on cell phones. Since then, the piece has also been known as the «Nokia tune».
