10-day-old baby ’rescued with mother from rubble 90 hours after earthquake’ in Turkey
A 10-day-old baby was rescued from rubble in Turkey’s Hatay province on February 9, according to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, 90 hours after powerful earthquakes struck the region on Monday.
Istanbul’s mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu, said the baby, whom he named as Yagiz Ulas, was pulled from the rubble with her mother by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality search and rescue teams.
The combined Turkish and Syrian death toll from the earthquake exceeded 22,000 by Friday.
Turkey’s Ministry of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management said at least 18,342 people had died in the country’s south, while the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Syria’s death toll had risen to 3,773.
