VIENNA - Augustinerkirche (CANOVA sculpture)

Augustinerkirche (Augustinian Church in english) is located in Josefsplatz, next to the Hofburg. It was originally built in the 14th century as the church of the imperial court of the Habsburgs. Inside the church is found the beautiful memorial to Archduchess Maria Christina of Austria sculpted by Antonio Canova in 1805. Right of the main altar there is the Loreto chapel which holds the Herzgruft (in english Hearts Crypt), a burial chamber that protects the silver urns containing the hearts of 54 members of the royal family but I wasn’t able to visit because it was closed.
