The worst snowfall, cars buried in ice A strong snowstorm was reported to have hit several cities in two countries including Sweden and Finland, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. An autumn storm, called Varpu, brought strong winds and heavy rain to many parts of the Finland since last night and also the first snow in Lapland. Nearly 44,000 households were left without electricity due to the storm, mostly in eastern Finland. In the capital region, emergency services received dozens of calls due to the bad weather. Meanwhile, the snow season has also begun in the north of Sweden. SMHI issued an orange warning for snow and wind in parts of the northern hinterland of Norrbotten.
