Gouda cheese

Cheese from the Green Heart of Holland. Nowadays, most Dutch Gouda is produced industrially. Today (Aug. 2013) there are 264 Dutch farmers who still produce “Boerenkaas“ (“Farmers cheese“) on their farm in the traditional manner. We visit one of these farmers, Kaasboerderij Janmaat, Barwoutswaarder, near Woerden. “Boerenkaas“ is registered in the EU as a Protected Geographical Status. These cheeses can only be made in the Netherlands and can only use milk produced by Dutch cows.
