Turkish police deploy tear gas, water cannons to disperse pro-Palestinian protesters

On Sunday, a pro-Palestinian demonstration was dispersed by Turkish police using tear gas and water cannons. According to Reuters, the protesters attempted to enter an air base that houses U.S. troops. The incident happened just before U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s scheduled arrival in Ankara to discuss the Gaza conflict. Bulent Yildirim, president of IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, an Islamist aid organization from Turkey, called on the crowd in Adana to refrain from attacking the police. “Our rage is huge. We cannot hold it in. But Turkey is doing what it can,“ he said.
