The state border of the Russian Federation with the countries of the far abroad: China and Mongolia, and the near abroad - Kazakhstan passes through the territory of the Altai Republic. The Republic of Altai has an administrative border with the following subjects of the Russian Federation - the Republics of Tyva and Khakassia, the Altai Territory and the Kemerovo Region. The climate in the Altai Republic is temperate continental, with relatively short hot summers (June-August) and long (November-March) cold, sometimes very frosty, winters.
