Thick Fog Engulfs Skyscrapers in China

Dense fog blanketed multiple cities across China starting Wednesday, reducing visibility to less than 50 meters in some places and leading to the temporary closure of 123 highway sections. Anhui Province in east China issued an orange alert Thursday, the second highest on a four-tier scale, as visibility was reduced to less than 50 meters due to heavy fog. The fog in Lianyungang City of east China’s Jiangsu Province started on Wednesday. With many skyscrapers engulfed by thick fog, local authorities were forced to shut down some highways to minimize safety hazards. In Liaoning Province of northeast China, a top red alert was issued on Thursday morning. The morning rush hour, which usually wraps up at around 9:00, was prolonged till after 10:00 as drivers were forced to slow down. Tianjin Municipality in north China have also been wrapped by heavy fog for two days.
