A Gentle Giant? ft. Rhino Beetle

We’re back to publishing videos again every Sunday! The Rhinoceros Beetle ( Dynastinae ) is one of the largest insects in the world. It is no doubt a giant in the insect Class! The Dynastinae can reach up to 6 inches, and although look intimidating are actually harmless and not venomous. They are though incredible strong, arguably they can carry up to 850 times their own body weight! For this reason I call them the Mike Tyson of the insect world! Male rhino beetles can be distinguished between the females as they have large horns (as their name suggests), which they use in battle against other males to fight for territory and rights to mate with the females. To find the male rhino beetle I look in the area where I previously found the female, as they give off pheromones, which can attracts the males. Therefore where a female is, there is likely to be a male close by. Rhino beetles feed on tree sap and fruits, and can act as seed dispersers in the Asian rainfores
