Jem : “They“ (2004) • Official U.S. Music Video • HQ Audio • Optional Subtitles for Lyrics

• Standard Volume Level • Lyrics Transcript Provided Below • This video contains optional subtitles for the lyrics, and these can be activated and deactivated by simply clicking on the “CC“ button beneath the video. The source video I used to create this one is here: That was the best-quality upload of this music video I could find online. I have replaced the audio track with a high-quality one of the single, although I have left the first half-minute of the video with its original audio track, as it includes sounds which are not included on the single. The switch-over happens at the 0:30 time-point. The source video was out-of-sync, with the footage running a bit late compared to the sound, so I have fixed that. I have also upscaled the resolution from 480p to 1080p, as this increases the bitrate, which slightly improves picture quality and allows for the highest quality sound. Please be aware that playing it at the 1080p setting is not going to make it look as good as a true 1080p video. I have also added optional subtitles for the lyrics. The song was written by Jem Griffiths, Gerard Young and Johann Sebastian Bach (it includes a sample of the Swingle Singers’ 1963 adaptation of Bach’s “Prelude in F minor“ (BWV 881) from Book II of Well-Tempered Clavier from their album “Jazz Sebastian Bach“). This track was produced by Jem Griffiths, Yoad Nevo and Ge-ology. This single was Jem’s debut single, and was also her debut release, as it came ahead of the release of her debut album “Finally Woken“ (2004), however it was only released this early in the USA, and did not even reach the Top 100 there. It would not be released in other countries until over a year later, and was a big hit, reaching No. 1 in Hungary, No. 6 in her native UK, No. 7 in Scotland and Belgium, No. 8 in Ireland and Greece, No. 15 in Austria, No. 27 in the Netherlands, No. 28 in Australia, No. 45 in Germany and No. 47 in Sweden and Italy. This music video is one of two that were made for this song. This is the US one, and there is also a UK one. I have made a high-quality upload of the UK one, which can be found here: For more information on this song and track, see these pages: (song)&title=Special:Search An official presentation of the lyrics to this song can be found in the CD booklet for the Finally Woken album CD, the relevant page of which can be seen here: = However, as is often the case with these official presentations, the words actually sung are a little different. Presented below and as optional subtitles in the video is my own transcript of the lyrics, for which I have used that official presentation as a guide. Lyrics: “They“ - Jem (Words and Music by Jem Griffiths, Gerard Young and Johann Sebastian Bach) Who made up all the rules? We follow them like fools Believe them to be true Don’t care to think them through And I’m sorry, so sorry I’m sorry it’s like this I’m sorry, so sorry I’m sorry we do this And it’s ironic too Coz what we tend to do Is act on what they say And then it is that way And I’m sorry, so sorry I’m sorry it’s like this I’m sorry, so sorry I’m sorry we do this Who are they? Where are they? How can they possibly know all this? Who are they? Where are they? How can they possibly know all this? [Break] Do you see what I see? Why do we live like this? Is it because it’s true That ignorance is bliss? Who are they? Where are they? How do they know all this? And I’m sorry, so sorry I’m sorry it’s like this Do you see what I see? Why do we live like this? Is it because it’s true That ignorance is bliss? Who are they? Where are they? How can they know all this? And I’m sorry, so sorry I’m sorry we do this
