A woman in an apron yells for ’BASIL!’ A grubby boy appears, wipes his nose with his finger and says “Wotcher want?“. C/U of the meaning of ’Basil’ in a name book - it means ’kingly’. Cut back to the grubby boy, wearing a crown and carrying a sceptre.
Several animated drawings give us the meaning of different names, such as Amos, Harry, Ada, Constance and Hortense.
Numerous place names appear on the left-hand side of the screen as we are challenged to pronounce them correctly, and out loud! They include Abergavenny, Charteris and Cirencester. The correct pronunciations appear on the right. More animation shows the percentage of men’s names in 1380.
