Scenes of hundreds of live pigs being shovelled into a pit with the aid of a backhoe and then buried alive as part of a recent South Korean foot-and-mouth cull have shocked animal-welfare advocates. The video, which as the description suggests may be disturbing. Why it was considered too much trouble to kill the pigs before throwing them in the pit is not clear.
