Shannen Doherty: Crohn disease

Shannen Doherty An actress, producer, director and animal rights supporter, Doherty is best known for her roles in Heathers, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Charmed. She revealed her Crohn’s diagnosis in 1999. Doherty has struggled with her Crohn’s Disease since childhood. While it is not the most glamorous illness, Dohert became outspoken about her journey in 1999. Her positive outlook on life has helped guide her through her Crohn’s. The inheritance pattern of Crohn disease is unclear because many genetic and environmental factors are likely to be involved. However, Crohn disease tends to cluster in families; about 15 percent of affected people have a first-degree relative (such as a parent or sibling) with the disorder. Our immune system is supposed to protect us from foreign bodies, pathogens, and consequent infections, but in IBD, the immune system mistakes the body’s own microbes, food, and other materials for foreign bodies and attacks the intestine. The attack leads to a release of white blood cells at the sites, which causes inflammation. While filming for these and other roles, she was battling Crohn’s, but kept it from the public. In a 1999 interview with Star magazine, Doherty disclosed her condition, revealing that she had remained silent about it because it wasn’t very sexy. #Doherty #Shannen #actress #breast #Cancer #shannenDohertyCancer #stage4BreastCancer #breastCancerAwarenessMonth #BeverlyHills90210 #remission #treatment #shannenDohertyUpdate #shannenDohertyHealth #shannenDoherty #NikolaysGeneticsLessons #HealthIndustry #MedicineFieldOfStudy #PathologyMedicalSpecialty #nursingfieldOfStudy #NursingSchoolorganization #CrohnDisease #crohnsDisease #smallIntestine #largeIntestine #inflammation #immuneSystem
