Absolute Classic Cars. 1967 Morris Minor 1000 Deluxe - Bare shell restoration to Concours - SOLD
A truly exceptional example, this Condition 1 / Concours , Morris Minor 1000 2dr (series V built from 1962-71), was built as a ’rarer’ ’Deluxe’ model at the Cowley plant and was registered new in Northampton on the 1st Oct 1967 and has become available now as the current owner spends an increasing amount of time away on other travels.
Subject to a complete restoration, as documented within the accompanying USB memory stick (circa 400 images) we’re happy to say that this car has had every component, nut, bolt & washer removed along with every last micron of original paint and that although not financially shown / invoiced a similar ’in house’ restoration would cost well in excess of £25,000 with countless man-hours thrown in too.
A review of the USB images confirms this car has wanted for nothing in a strive to achieve what we feel is the best example we’ve ever seen and a quick over-view confirms the following:
- Body stripped to bare shell, with axle, suspension, mechanical components, interior etc all removed.
- Original paint work & underbody stripped and were necessary new ’heritage’ panels used for repair with bodywork ’jigged’ to ensure correct alignment for perfect panel gaps etc!
- Underbody prepared with more modern / efficient anti-corrosion protection and painted in body colour.
- Body painted in Old English White.
- All suspension components stripped, checked for wear and replaced with new as necessary and then rebuilt with all new bushes / fixings see under body photographs.
- Rebuilt engine.
- Rebuilt gearbox.
- New clutch.
- Brand new braking system.
- Fuel tank stripped, resealed and all new fuel lines, sender unit, fuel pump etc
- Rear axle stripped, checked, resealed, all new bearings, seals etc
- All new rubbers, seals, chrome inserts and glass were needed.
- New lock set including ignition.
- Complete new wiring loom, all electrical components check / replaced as necessary
- New chrome work, bumpers front / rear plus over-riders
- Wheels stripped, repainted with new beauty-rings, hubcaps and new tyres (Bridgestone x 5).
- Interior: original seats removed, completely stripped, seat frames media blasted, powder coated and rebuilt using new webbing, seat foams and all seats re-trimmed with Newton Commercial supplied Cherokee Red vinyl covers to factory spec, new carpets throughout, door cards, front / rear 1/4 cards, new roof lining in Biscuit, new parcel shelf, new sun-visors, original heater completely stripped and rebuilt, etc.
- New exhaust system.
- New lights, lenses / housings etc.
- Radiator stripped and re-core.
- New mirrors.
Needless to say with such a comprehensive and all encompassing restoration this Morris Minor 1000 2 dr saloon presents to an exceptional standard and has done minimal mileage since. Often a weak point on many a Morris Minor rebuild we’re happy to say the panel gaps are perfect, it’s quite probably better than when it left the production line! The Old English White bodywork is in fantastic condition, the chrome and paint having a wonderful lustrous shine, there’s quite obviously been a borderline obsessive attention to detail shown during the build. On opening the front doors, the driver and passengers are met with an interior in first class order, finished in “as new“ order with all the switches, latches, carpet having a quality feel and one can’t help but smile watching the indicator stalk end ’flash’ in unison with the exterior lamps and this level of detail continues on inspection of both the engine compartment, boot and extends further when looking at the underbody detail too.
Cementing our observation further of this being the best 2 door Minor we’ve ever seen the mechanics are just perfect too. The engine starts easily, with just the slightest amount of ’choke’ when cold and pulls sweetly through all gears, this Minor will happily drive with modern traffic but to really enjoy this classic it’s best to just sing along down the country roads and one can’t help but smile especially with the ’waspy rasp’ heard from the exhaust during gear-changes.
Without doubt the finest Morris Minor Saloon we’ve ever seen, the car comes with a history file containing MOT’s (2006 to date), a Passport to Service, Workshop & Parts Catalogues, MMOC ’Welcome’ pack, a full matched set of keys, the all important USB (detailing the bare shell restoration) and ahead of delivery she will be inspected by our independent engineer / serviced and sold with 12months MOT. If you’re looking for an ’as new’ Morris Minor we feel this car is as close as they come!
