The World’s Longest Sniper Shot

What’s the world’s longest sniper shot? Well up until recently it was a record held by a Canadian JTF-2 team at a distance of 3,540m and here’s the shot. They were using a McMillan TAC-50. This insane shot was hit back in 2017 and remained up until just November 2023 when a Ukrainian sniper by the name of Viacheslav Kovalskyi beat it. He’s part of Special Group “Alpha” a branch of the Security Service of Ukraine. And here’s the fateful shot. As you can tell from the video that’s a hang time of over 10 seconds which is no surprise considering it was over a distance of 3,800m. To achieve this feat he was using the Horizon’s Lord chambered in HL. This thing Single shot scifi looking thing is technically an anti material rifle mainly designed to take out armoured vehicles, military equipment or structures. And although the rifle itself hasn’t undergone any major changes to aid it in long range personnel hunting, the ammo has. He used the casing of a coupled with a smaller calibre bullet. This means you get the increased powder of a larger casing and therefore a higher starting velocity but with the more aerodynamic bullet meaning it won’t slow down as much and will go further.
