Saunders Island Suite - II. Rockhopper’s Dance (Uros Baric)
Get score:
Saunders Island Suite is my first ever published composition.
“The beauty of traveling is that every now and then you end up in a place that is somehow more special and magical that you could ever imagine and you just know that you’ll need to return as soon as possible. For my wife and I, one such experience was visiting Saunders Island back in 2016. Having the entire island for ourselves, camping amidst the Magellanic penguin burrows under the overhanging rock aka “The Swiss Hotel”, named by the first campers from Switzerland, wondering at elephant seals and tens of thousands of penguins, having breakfast while watching spouts from whale groups nearby and the giant albatrosses flying over our heads, it was like a dream.”
The composition is inspired by the immense beauty of Saunders Island and the sounds from the wildlife and the ocean. It is in four movements (The Neck, Rockhopper’s Dance, Albatross Nest, Elephant Point) and has a duration of 10’26”.
