Gottschalk - Pasquinade (Caprice), Op. 59 - Ivan Davis Piano
Pasquinade - a composition that imitates or misrepresents somebody’s style, usually in a humorous way. It can also be described as a lampoon, satire, or parody ().
Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-1869) composed this piece in 1869 and it was published in 1870. I do not know Gottschalk’s inspiration behind this piece, but it is definitely humorous in nature.
Ivan Davis (b. 1932) is an American classical pianist and professor of music in Miami, Florida. Most of his recordings are unfortunately out of print. I find his enthusiastic interpretations of Gottschalk’s music to be quite enjoyable.
