Pooh Stick is a game that is based on a famous children’s cartoon called Winnie the Pooh. The game is based on an activity that the main character of the show, Pooh used to do. In the show, Pooh used to drop pine cones of the bridge in hundred-acre woods and then rush to the other side to watch them come through. The objective of the game is to throw the stick in a way that appears first from the other end. Pooh Stick is an individual sport where players compete against each other. The game involves standing on a bridge and dropping your stick in the water, then racing to the other side to see whose stick goes the fastest. This game is mainly played among friends on a riverbank or any flowing water body. The game begins with each player selecting a stick and showing it to their fellow competitors. Before the beginning of the match, players are required to check which way the stream is flowing. All players must make sure that they are facing the stream on the side where it runs in, under the bridge. A good indicator is if the stream runs out, from under the bridge it is on the wrong side. Out of all the participants, one player either the youngest or the oldest is chosen to be a starter. After taking the position, each competitor holds their stick at arm’s length over the stream. Players mark their sticks so it is easy to identify them later. All players should hold the stick at the height of the stream. The tall competitors should lower their arms to bring all the sticks to the same height. The starter shouts and gives a ready signal by saying Ready Steady Go. All the participants drop their sticks by keeping their hands in the same position. Players are not allowed to throw the stick into the water. After throwing the stick all the players are required to cross to the downstream side of the bridge. This can be done by walking or by riding any sort of vehicle. Players must stand on the downstream side and look over the edge of the bridge for the sticks to emerge. The first player whose stick emerges from under the bridge is the winner.
