Ukrainian Troops Lay Down Arms in Donetsk’s Avdiivka; Surrender to Russia Amid ’Failed’ Offensive
The crews of two Ukrainian BMP-1 infantry combat vehicles have surrendered to Russia. Ukrainian fighters have reportedly surrendered in Avdiivka, a city in Donetsk oblast. The soldiers laid down their arms after Kyiv’s commanders “refused to evacuate“ them. A Russian official confirmed the news to Moscow’s state-run media house, TASS. Ukraine launched its much-hyped offensive last week but has failed to make a mark. Kyiv made small advances in five Donetsk villages but suffered heavy losses in the battle. In just one week of counteroffensive operations, Ukraine seems to be on its knees.
