Volkswagen Beetle 2011 Super Bowl XLV television commercial

Volkswagen will run two new ads during the Super Bowl Sunday broadcast on American television. Volkswagen of America will pay dearly to air two 30-second spots - one for the all-new North American Passat model and one for the 2012 Beetle - which will run during the second and fourth quarters of the game. The Passat commercial features a Star Wars theme and was produced with the help of Lucasfilm Ltd., George Lucas’ production company. The visuals are accompanied by the well-known “Imperial March“ music by film composer John Williams. The ad shows a child dressed as Darth Vader summoning the “Force“ upon discovering a Passat in the driveway. The other spot for the all-new 2012 VW Beetle features a CGI-generated black beetle who reigns supreme in the forest. The soundtrack includes a new rendition of the famed rock song “Black Betty“ by Jon Spencer and the Blues Explosion. The ads are the work of Volkswagen of America’s agency Deutsch L.A. Inc. The Super Bowl takes place on Sunday February 6th.
