A few words from the band: “ ’Scepter’ is a philosophical reflection on the nature of power, and on how to break free from the endless spiral of violence on which societies are built. Drawing from the works of Hobbes, Hegel and Foucault, it describes the growing disillusion of servants, who only entrust themselves to authority out of fear of death, aspiring to take its place, and warriors, who sacrifice themselves in the hope of achieving a higher ideal. Only by detaching oneself from the mythology of power, by shattering the illusion that it resides in a unique source and can be possessed, is it possible to stop this vicious cycle of hope and corruption.“ Hope you enjoy it. Every share counts. Much love! 🍕 DESPITE EXILE ARE: Jei Doublerice - VOX Giacomo Santini - GUITAR Alessandro Carminati - GUITAR Francesco Comuzzi - GUITAR Giovanni Minozzi - BASS Simone Cestari - DRUMS LYRICS: Raise your head, servant You have been bowed for too long Clench your fists, warrior The time has already come A life equally divided Between the pride of your masters And the ineffaceable scent of blood You all thought your sacrifice Was worth the cause Governed with crosier and sword Only to find shelter from the war of all And so you saw it all The dawn, the rise, the fall The vicious cycle of hope and corruption The dying light of ideals Where there once was a rapture And thus the doubt worms his way And excavates these immaculate intellects The charade falls apart As you observe the scepter Weaved in the air Receptacle of favorable and dreadful fate Aspiring to its taste You conceive a realm delivered From this stranglehold of betrayal And suffocated revolt One last chance to break all oaths And reach for the throne Yet the throne was hollow all along Crossed out and sundered By its internal inconsistent form Power does not sit where you think it does But lies in the interstices of what we think we know Diffracted and dispersed Let all scepters lapse in the dirt where they belong Only to find shelter from the war of all And so you saw it all The dawn, the rise, the fall The vicious cycle of hope and corruption The dying light of ideals Where there once was a rapture And thus the doubt worms his way And excavates these immaculate intellects CREDITS: Written by Jei Doublerice and Giacomo Santini Lyrics by Giovanni Minozzi Production, mix and master by Jei Doublerice Additional post-production by Alan Sacha Laskow Video directed by Damiano Affinito 1st AD Marcello della Puppa
