**EARLY ARRIVAL** Heavy Fire Out the Windows, 20ft Flames thru roof [ Manhattan 3rd Alarm Box 1017 ]

©FDNY Response Videos 2019 Since there are so many comments talking about the time it took to put water on the fire, I thought I would put the fire into perspective: #1: The story is in the radio traffic #2: Firefighters were met with an advanced fire on arrival. There was charged smoke seeping from the front windows and every crack in the buildings cornice and cockloft, indicating that fire had likely already extended into the cockloft. For those who don’t know what that is, it is a void between the top floor ceiling and the building roof that runs along the entire building. In this space fire can spread rapidly undetected. #3: The fire apartment was packed full of waist deep clutter. This condition made it nearly impossible to enter the apartment due to the door being jammed shut.
