North Korea: Kim Jong-un and wife attend lively New Year party

North Korea’s state-run television KRT released video showing leader Kim Jong-un enjoying a New Year’s concert with his wife Ri Sol-ju in Pyongyang. KRT said Kim Jong-un and his wife Ri welcomed the New Year with a fireworks display joined by guests including foreign ambassadors. The pair then attended a concert entitled “following the Party to the End“ by the couple’s favoured Moranbong Band. When state TV showed Ri Sol-ju attending a memorial service for her husband’s late father Kim Jong-il in mid-December, she appeared heavily pregnant with her loose-fit traditional dress barely hiding a swollen belly. But the images of her attending the official New Year’s party showed her wearing a well-fitted two-piece skirt suit with no physical sign of pregnancy. South Korean television and newspapers on Thursday ran before-and-after photos with speculative captions.
