I’ve heard some folks out there “throwing shade“ (as the kids say) at the Epson Perfection Pro line of film scanners (the Epson V700, V750, V800, and V850). “It’s okay, I guess. But really, it’s just a flatbed scanner, not a film scanner.“
Balderdash, I say!
My Epson Perfection V750 is actually pretty darn good. Sure, it’s no drum scanner, but, especially for the price, it can create some phenomenal image scans when you do things right.
So in this video I’m going to show you how to get the best results from your Epson Perfection Pro film scanner. A film scanning tutorial, of sorts. Step 1 is getting the focus dialed in, then it’s about maximizing image quality through the right software and software settings. With the right technique, your film scanning will go quickly and smoothly, yielding some impressive results.
I’ll be scanning a couple frames of 645 on Kodak Portra 400 film, but the techniques covered in this video are critical for all types of film - color negatives, transparency film, and black & white film.
So let’s get to scanning, hot stuff.
Be sure to check out Stone Photo Gear for a sweet Epson Scanner dust cover:
And get yourself a worthwhile piece of software to run your scanner (it’ll make your life better):
As always, thanks for watching. Enjoy!
