Hughes & Kettner Tubeman 3 Channel Tube Preamp: Direct To Board Guitar Solution
Long before the days of Kemper, Axe FX, Quad Cortex, or Helix, like way back in the dark ages, guitar players still needed to run direct. So if you’re used to a massive multi channel tube amp what could you do to try to get that sound in a pedalboard friendly size? With something that didn’t sound like a toy? There was the Tubeman from Hughes & Kettner. A 3 channel tube preamp that could be run into the effects loop of a tube amp to act as a preamp, or run it directly to a soundboard for live silent stage or recording applications via the integrated Redbox analog cab sim built in. Fender like cleans? Yep! Light breakup? Yes! Crushing modern gain? Yes! This box has you covered.
For the signal chain here all instruments were run through the Tubeman and then out of the cab sim out to the BigSky and timeline, as I find putting wet effects after it (as you would in an effects loop) actually helps the use ability tremendously. Tell me what you think? Does it still hold up in the ag
