A Cosy English Cottage and its Fairytale Garden

This has been a bucket list house for me for so many years now, so when we were down in Devon over the bank holiday weekend and I noticed that we were only an hour away, I asked Jon if he wouldn’t mind a detour so I could visit. This beautiful cottage is like a real life fairytale! It’s a twenty minute walk in the woods, which on a day like today was perfect and magical as we were surrounded by bluebells and birds singing. The cottage is the old home of Thomas Hardy who is a famous English Poet and Author, you might have heard of some of his work such as Far from the Madding Crowd or Tess of The D’Ubervilles. The cottage has a really beautiful history and reminded me a lot of our own little English cottage. Although this one is made from cob and thatch (whereas ours is stone). The cottage was the birthplace of author Thomas Hardy in 1840 and was built by his great-grandfather who was a builder which is why a lot of the house has been built to a high standard and has beautiful and unique things about it such as the payment window (you can see in the video) and the unusual doors that are usually slats of wood like you’ll see in the tour of my cottage. This is also the house is where Hardy wrote his early works, including ’Under the Greenwood Tree’ and ’Far from the Madding Crowd’. Thank you so much for watching this video and I hope you enjoy this peaceful tour around the house. I have tried to keep it restful, relaxing and slow for you.
