How I Practice Scratching Without Patterns and Increase Hand Control | Flow State DJing

This video is more an example of my process when practicing. Read the following tips for more details. 1) Stop scratching over hip hop instrumentals and start utilizing the scratch beat tools that are readily available. and Tablebeats both have amazing looper apps with a huge library of beats made by scratchers, like myself, that have constructed beats for the scratcher in mind. 2) Stop focusing on patterns and start thinking in terms of rhyme schemes. Attempt to breakdown your flow into segmented bars. In a 4/4 count think of each count as a chance to construct a flow out of patterns in order to connect and expand your scratch vocab. Instead of looking at it like Chirp and then Flare, think of it segmented out into AAAA, AAAB, AABB etc rhyme schemes. 3) Try scratching sitting to stregthen your hand control and increase difficutly of where your power/push/pull motion comes from. You don’t have to sit everytime, but add this to your sessions can vary how you practice in general. 4) Get in the flow state. It’s about the music. Let go and be present.
