For Chris Richardson, owner of LA Speed Shop in Los Angeles, the keys to a great build are simplicity and maneuverability. “Here in California, we can split lanes,” he says. “So the tighter, skinnier, and lighter — almost like a bicycle — I can make the bike, the better. I like to be able to throw it around in traffic like it’s nothing.” The Sailor Jerry bike featured in this video got hit with a dash more flash, thanks to Richardson’s buddy, artist Michael “Buck” Ramirez of BuckWild Brand. “Sailor Jerry was looking to build a bike to help promote their brand. They saw my 1947 Knuckle and said they wanted me to build another bike like it. I explained I wouldn’t do another bike like this, but I could do you something similar. They were like, ‘No, we want this bike. Will you sell us it?’ I suggested they pay me to rip it apart, rebuild it all new, have it painted with tattoo flash, and they could rent it from me.
