Firefighter Rescue and Survival - The Double Horse Shoe Technique
There are many methods/techniques for extracting a FF who has fallen through a hole in a floor or roof - Including the use of rope, webbing or a hose line. The fact is there are many options for using any one of these three. Regardless of what procedure is used, the Rescue Team must take into account the following elements to determine if a rescue from above is viable:
1. Structural integrity
2. Access to the floor below or location the FF fell into
3. Surface area or space available to work
4. Size and configuration of the hole/breach
5. Status of the victim and fire conditions
Practicing a variety of techniques will allow FFs to adapt to different situations and conditions increasing their overall versatility.
