3D laser scan of the underground 850 Adit, in Tigroney West, Avoca, Co. Wicklow

The 850 Adit is one of several adits within the Avoca Mines site. It is located in the townland of Tigroney West (House of the Romans), Avoca, Co Wicklow. It was mined by Saint Patrick’s Mines from 1958 to 1962 and reached the 750 m mark in September 1962. The adit was driven to access copper ore from several underground stopes mined off the adit. The rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 850 Adit portal was carried out by the Exploration and Mining Division on behalf of the Minister of Communications, Climate Action and Environment. This was as part of a €3m Government project started in December 2013 to address essential health and safety works at the Avoca Mines site. Details of the remediation can be obtained from our website
