Released by Castle Films in 1942 and sold for the home market through catalogs and department stores through 1945, this “Christmas Cartoon“ short features a bookended live-action segment, introducing some children who are disappointed that Santa hasn’t come. Dad sets up a 16mm movie projector and screen, and some magic happens -- a 1932 Terrytoon called “Toyland“ comes on screen -- and when it concludes, presents suddenly appear. As the film comes to an end, carolers appear at the window of the family home, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. The Toyland cartoon shown was directed by Frank Moser and written by Paul Terry.
