LAS VEGAS - Severe thunderstorms from the summer monsoon caused flash flooding in parts of Las Vegas Friday morning. Heavy rains turned roads into lakes and several vehicles were stranded or drowned on flooded roads. Rainfall totals reached to inches or more Friday morning with short, heavy rains. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Las Vegas and other parts of southern Nevada, warning residents of high winds, small hail and heavy rain. The flooding came hours after Phoenix was rocked by storms that created a wall of dust. Several flights to Sky Harbor International Airport were diverted and a soccer game at Arizona State University was postponed due to the bad weather . The evening commute to Las Vegas was also affected by flooding from additional heavy rain and storms. A flash flood warning was issued for Clark County, and the NWS reminded residents that as little as six inches of fast-moving water can knock down an adult. Millions of residents in four states were placed under a flood watch because of the threat of additional rainfall due to the monsoon. At least one driver was rescued from his car and others abandoned their vehicles after flooding caused by fast-moving thunderstorms. More rain is expected to intensify through Saturday Rapid thunderstorms moved through the Las Vegas Valley, causing flash flooding in parts of the Las Vegas Strip as the region braced for more rain Saturday.
